Ministry of Justice – Job description

1. Responsible for all matters concerning the relationship between the Judiciary Branch and the Executive such as:
• Presenting and pursuing administrative and employment-related plans and budget for human resources, and facilities the Ministry of Justice and the Judiciary need
• Piecing together, formulating and following up the bylaws, directives and the permits the Judiciary needs until they are ratified by the Cabinet
• Submitting judicial bills submitted by the Judiciary chief to the government and defending them as they are being debated in the Cabinet before they are presented to the Islamic Consultative Assembly

2. Responsible for all matters concerning the relationship between the Judiciary Branch and the Legislative Branch such as:
• Reviewing the judicial bills and reflecting the viewpoints of the Judiciary Branch
• Participating in formulating judicial bills, and pursuing and defending them in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and reflecting the viewpoints of the Judiciary Branch
• Offering the responses of the Judiciary Branch to complaints about and investigations into the conducts of the branch (subject of Articles 76 and 90 of the Constitution)
3. Answering to the president and the Islamic Consultative Assembly on the ministry’s responsibilities and the decisions of the Cabinet
4. Carrying out the responsibilities and exercising the authority the ministry has been granted by the president or the Cabinet
5. Formulating bylaws, and issuing circulars within the purview of the ministry’s responsibilities and the decisions of the Cabinet
6. Signing judicial treaties, conventions, and contracts with other governments when the ministry is to act on behalf of the president in coordination with the Judiciary Branch
7. Handling financial and administrative affairs as well as hiring non-judges if the ministry is granted powers by the Judiciary chief to do so, and handling the affairs the Judiciary chief assigns to the ministry
8. Taking measures to protect the rights of Iranian expatriates
9. Rendering legal assistance to Iranian nationals living abroad
10. Responding to legal inquiries made by government organizations
11. Making coordination in international affairs, such as judicial cooperation and assistance deals on extradition of criminals and the transfer of sentenced persons in full compliance with the Constitution and in line with the views of the Judiciary chief
12. Managing the payment of blood money from public funds and defending the victims of crimes and individuals convicted of involuntary crimes
13. Managing the affairs of the centers for official experts, lawyers and (Court-licensed) Accredited Translators
14. Dealing with, issuing verdicts for, and penalizing the violators of the governmental discretionary punishment law.
